Cornwall’s tidal range varies from around 2 metres on neap tides to over 6 metres on spring tides. Spring tides occur around the full and new moon, bringing the largest difference between high and low water. North coast beaches tend to have a slightly larger range than south coast beaches.

Some Cornwall beaches lose their sand entirely at high spring tides, and cliff-backed beaches can become dangerous with no escape route. Always check tide times before visiting, pay attention to lifeguard flags, and never get cut off by a rising tide. Rock pooling and cove exploring are safest around low water.
